Excess Noise Event
In Referenced Mode, the system knows the Reference Audio file that is being played on the Source DUT; therefore, the system knows when to expect a period of silence and can measure the noise level during this period. The Excess Noise event is reported when energy sufficiently above the “Silence Threshold” is detected during programmed segments of silence. Excess noise can indicate a poor analog audio chain with an inherently poor noise floor, glitches occurring during silence intervals, or codecs that do not transition to silence instantaneously.
The info reported with the Excess Noise event is listed below. Both info1 and info2 values are integers indicating sample level and can be converted to dBFS via the relationship
- Info1: The peak noise amplitude (dB).
- Info2: The RMS Average of the noise level (dB).
- Msg: Unused
